Winter Weather Preparations…

As we step further into the season of winter, please be mindful of the Monongalia County School System’s guidelines for dealing with inclement weather. All pertinent information about school delays or cancellations will be shared with parents/guardians via the School Messenger System.  If you need to update your contact information, you may do so if you have activated your School Messenger account. Simply log in to your School Messenger account to make the changes. If you have not activated your account, please contact our Technology Integration Specialist, Carla Williams at cwilliams@k12.wv.us for assistance.

When inclement weather causes a 2 Hour Delay, to the start of the school day, please note that students must not arrive before 10:30 A.M. Supervision in unavailable, and the school is not opened until 10:30 A.M. If your children are enrolled in the Morning Adventures Program, know that the Program will not operate on a 2 Hour Delay.

If the weather causes the Superintendent to authorize an early dismissal, students will be sent home following regular procedures. In this type of emergency situation, the Afternoon Adventures Program will not operate.

Information about school delays, early dismissals, and cancellations will be shared via School Messenger and through regular radio and TV announcements.

Attendance Reminders…

Late arrivals and early outs for students are both considered “tardies” within the Monongalia County Attendance Policy. Arriving late and/or leaving early is a disruption to the class and breaks a child’s focus. Whenever possible, plan appointments so they do not interrupt the school day. If your child must leave early, please send a note to the teacher. Except in the case of an emergency, please do not call the school office to make last minute transportation arrangements. This is especially problematic after 3:00 P.M., and often causes undo stress for students, as they work best within a regular routine.

In order for students to get the most out their school experience, they MUST be present to participate in the learning activities designed by the teachers. It is impossible to duplicate the learning experience missed at school, with a homework assignment completed at the dining room table.

Finally…

In a few short weeks, students will enjoy a mid-year winter break. Whether your family will be traveling or staying at home, I hope you enjoy the time you’ll have together. Time flies. Enjoy every minute!

Happy Holidays!
