Mrs. Nease, one of our phenomenal speech pathologists, has placed 2 weather proof communication boards on the PK and K-3 playgrounds.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication includes any form of communication beyond speech, such as picture cards, sign language, and speech-generating devices.
Did you know??
At a playground, communication boards can beused to facilitate social interaction, express needs, and model language.
Teachers and peers can model full sentences by pointing to symbols, helping students to ask to play, indicate if they are hurt, or express preferences like wanting to go on the slide instead of the swings. These boards are a valuable tool for creating inclusive spaces for students who are non-verbal, have multilingual needs, or are learning to communicate.
